Pilar Aguilar is an international expert on education in emergencies. She has over three decades of experience humanitarian education in Latin America and has worked in the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Europe, and the United States. Among many accomplishments, her career includes serving from 1994-1997 as the Chief of the UNICEF Education programme in Rwanda, where she was responsible for the creation of the first rapid Back-to-School Initiative response for approximately 800,000 children, including refugees and displaced persons.

Pilar is currently the director at the FUHD on human rights and public policies. She has a PhD in Education from the University of Hull, UK.
