Carlo Scaramella
Carlo Scaramella is an international expert specializing in hunger and food security, climate change, peacebuilding, and humanitarian and development issues.
He is a former Director at the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the world’s largest humanitarian organization. With over 30 years of experience across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, Carlo has played a pivotal role in responding to some of the most urgent humanitarian crises of our time. At the corporate level, he led WFP’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Services, as well as the Office for Climate Change, Environment, and Disaster Risk Reduction.
From 2019 to early 2024, Carlo served as WFP’s Representative and Country Director in Colombia, overseeing humanitarian operations supporting populations affected by violence, conflict, migrants, indigenous groups, and Afro-descendant communities. He also launched innovative initiatives focused on climate adaptation, food security, and livelihood strengthening in Colombia’s Amazon region. During this period, he also established WFP’s Regional Innovation Hub for Latin America.
